Dear Rotarians:
It has been some time since my last newsletter, not because there has
been no news, but my schedule of traveling, to International Assembly,
Zone Institutes, Board meetings and now PETS have made it very
difficult. For that I apologize.
Our Zone website has posted new items of interest and news
since our last newsletter, but that requires you to go to the site,
and the newsletter is sent directly to you.
There are many things happening in Rotary, mostly through the efforts
of your clubs and Districts activities and service projects. One week
last month was Rotaract week, and I had the pleasure of attending a
charter ceremony for the Rotaract club of Virginia Commonwealth
University.
I attended New England PETS, Chesapeake PETS, West Virginia PETS and
7570 PETS, all of which were excellent. Director Elect John Smarge
attended Georgia PETS, Florida PETS, Chesapeake PETS and Carolinas PETS.
The District Conference high season is now upon us and all Districts
are finalizing their plans for a year end celebration of this Rotary
year. I know that they will be wonderful opportunities to learn, get
motivated and have fun with Rotary friends and family.
The COL begins April
26, and our delegates I know are well prepared for their
participation. As usual, there will be some changes in the
"Rules of Rotary," which the COL feels will make Rotary
better, more efficient, more relevant to todays world. Read the proposed COL legislation.
I want to thank all those who made the Zone Institute held in
December, 2009 at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, such
a great success...and especially thank Sue Poss, our newsletter
editor and web site editor....she is such a treat...
Warm regards to all,
Eric E. Adamson, RIVP

Giving Russian leaders a look at democracy
The Open World Program was originally established as a
Library of Congress-administered pilot project in 1999 to give emerging
Russian leaders firsthand exposure to the American system of
democracy through visits to local governments and communities in the
United States. Today, Open World also encompasses exchanges for
political and civic leaders from other post-Soviet states, including
Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan,
Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan and
Rotary has been involved with the program. The overall program
now focuses primarily on developing a network of leaders who have an
understanding of how American communities deal with contemporary
issues and who want to maintain contact with their new American
contacts and other counterparts. Download more information. Download a hosting request form.
