Whenever and wherever it is needed

Rotary Club of Woodstock-Oxford sets up Philippine Disaster Relief Fund

We’ve seen the devastating news about the Washi Typhoon and resulting disaster that has occurred in the Philippines.

Many people have lost everything and over 1000 are now reported dead, with an estimated 900 people still missing.

These people need our help!  Rotarians and friends can encourage their hope and help them to rebuild their lives.

Please make a difference with your financial donation today:

Online – go to  www.woodstockoxfordrotary.org  and select “Donate to our Charitable Foundation” link.

Then select “Flood Disaster Relief Fund, Philippines” so your contribution goes to this special account.

Cheque – Make out to:  Rotary Club Woodstock-Oxford Charitable Benefit Trust

and mail to:  Peter Stam, Treasurer.  656441 15th line, RR# 7 Woodstock, On. N4S 7W2

(Canadian tax receipts will be issued electronically if online payment or via mail if cheque payment.)

We have reports that friends and neighbors are walking knee deep in mud, searching for lost loved ones in their community.

There are first hand reports of no water or electricity and farming crops wiped out, in addition to houses and farm buildings.

In addition to several news sites, you can see the devastation at this Washington Post photo gallery.

Please help these people in desperate need.  There are local Rotarians in the recipient community to oversee the humanitarian aid.

Dr. Grace from Woodstock flew to the Philippines today to help family and friends who have been affected with damage and loss.

In a previous email I told you of her family residing in the area and loss of their farm operation with other neighbors..

We hope that you will consider contributing to this cause, helping share a light of hope into the dark corners of despair that many

are feeling right now.  For more information please contact myself or Peter Stam, our Treasurer  peter@mankar.ca

With appreciation and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Response to disaster in Japan

TRF Chairman Stenhammar, on behalf of the TRF Trustees, decided on 11 April 2011 to:

  • immediately establish a Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands 2011 Disaster Recovery Fundthrough TRF to be used in lieu of the regular World Fund match for Matching Grants and Global Grants for disaster recovery projects related to the earthquake and tsunami impacting districts in Japan and other Pacific island nations; this also applies to donations from corporations and non-Rotarians.
  • permit the fund to accept both cash contributions and DDF donations.
  • clarify that TRF will not provide Paul Harris Fellow recognition for donations to the fund.
  • confirm that all Matching Grants and Global Grants related to disaster recovery in Japan and other Pacific island nations must adhere to the policies and guidelines stipulated in the TRF Code of Policies and grant terms and conditions; this includes the restrictions on construction.
  • request the general secretary to provide a recommendation for consideration at the April 2011 Trustees meeting in regards to how the disaster recovery funds will be utilized among the affected districts, e.g. even percentage split, weighted percentage split, first come/first served, etc.
  • extend the 2011-12 Matching Grants application deadline to 30 April 2011 for grants related to these disaster recovery projects.
  • waive the minimum percentage of funding requirement of the international (overseas) sponsors for Matching Grants related to these disaster recovery projects, thereby permitting districts in the affected areas to contribute more than 50% of the total DDF and/or cash designated for the grant project.

Rotarians, clubs, and districts can contribute cash and District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations to the fund. Learn more.

The Foundation will begin accepting online in the coming days.
